CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences of West Virginia opened the doors to its latest exhibit on Tuesday, which details the history of the guitar as an instrument.
The exhibit, aptly called: Medieval to Metal: The Art & Evolution of the Guitar, looks to “celebrate the development of the world’s most popular instrument.”
Available at the Juliet Art Museum and developed by the National Guitar Museum, the exhibit features 40 unique guitars and traces the medieval beginnings of the instrument in Asia and Europe through its key roles in the development of genres such as blues, country, and rock ‘n roll.
“From the intricately inlaid Moorish oud and six-foot long Renaissance lute to the modern Italian design of the Eko and transparent acrylic body of California’s BC Rich guitars, the exhibition takes visitors through the history and design of an object that is one of the most recognizable items on the planet,” reads a release for the addition.
Also included in the exhibition are illustrations detailing historically significant guitar designs from noted artist Gerard Huerta, as well as photos of acclaimed musical performers and their instruments from Neil Ziozower, one of the world’s premier concert photographers.
