ROMNEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Hampshire County law enforcement cracked the case of the “hoofed Houdini” on Tuesday when a lost horse was reunited with its owner.
Earlier this week, law enforcement reported discovering a horse wandering alone along Route 50 near Core Road west of the Romney area.
Photos shared by the sheriff’s office depict the animal in a face mask, which was likely indicative that it had been separated from a caretaker.
Tuesday saw the conclusion of the investigation, as the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office gave notice that the owner of the lost horse was en route to retrieve their missing friend.
“Good news, Hampshire County! The mystery is solved – the owner of our wandering equine friend has been found and is on the way to pick up the hoofed Houdini,” read a statement from the HCSO. “Thanks for all your help, and remember: always check your fences, folks!”
Coincidentally, the “Route 50” mystery came about just days following a “help wanted” announcement for the open position of Hampshire County Control Officer with the sheriff’s office.
Those interested in the position may apply online or pick up an application in person at the sheriff’s office between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm Monday-through-Friday.
Applications must be completed and submitted by July 19, 2024.
