BOONE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A routine road patrol turned into a high-speed pursuit and drug arrest Saturday evening when a North Carolina-registered vehicle fled from state troopers in the Seth area of Boone County.
According to the West Virginia State Police, Senior Trooper M. Holl and Trooper M.D. Veres were patrolling Prenter Road around 8:00 p.m. on June 14 when they spotted a black Mitsubishi Outlander speeding and swerving left of center. Radar clocked the vehicle at 80 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.
When troopers attempted a traffic stop, the driver accelerated, initiating a dangerous three-mile chase through winding roads. The suspect vehicle veered into the opposite lane along Coal Fork Laurel Road, continuing to speed before crashing. The driver then fled on foot into a wooded area.
Officers pursued the suspect approximately 50 yards into the woods, giving multiple commands to stop and show his hands. After a brief struggle, the suspect — identified as Christopher Erik Mullin — was taken into custody.
A search of the vehicle revealed:
-
Approximately $2,700 in U.S. currency
-
2.0 grams of suspected cocaine
-
33 Hydrocodone pills
-
One digital scale with white powder residue
Troopers noted Mullin showed signs of impairment, including bloodshot eyes, constricted pupils, and eyelid tremors. He refused to perform sobriety tests but later admitted to running because he was “scared of cops” and had cocaine in his system.
Mullin was transported to Boone Memorial Hospital, where a blood sample was obtained. He was then booked at the West Virginia State Police Madison Detachment and taken to Southwestern Regional Jail, where he awaits arraignment.
Charges are expected to include fleeing from law enforcement, possession with intent to deliver controlled substances, DUI, and resisting arrest.
