FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Hilltop man previously charged in a multi-count sexual abuse investigation has now entered a guilty plea in Fayette County Circuit Court.
According to the Fayette County Prosecutor, David P. Humphrey Sr., 69, pled guilty to two counts of First-Degree Sexual Abuse. Sentencing is scheduled for March 16, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Fast.
The case began in August 2022 when detectives with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department were notified by an OHHS Prevention Resource Officer about a student’s report of sexual abuse. Investigators launched a detailed probe and later received multiple disclosures from siblings in the same family involving the same neighbor. Authorities said the incidents dated back more than a decade.
According to investigators, both children involved were neighbors of Humphrey.
During the investigation, Humphrey initially denied that any inappropriate touching occurred. In a later statement to law enforcement, however, he claimed the girls grabbed his hand and forcibly pressed it into their groin area, saying there was nothing he could do to stop it.
Humphrey was originally charged with four counts of Sexual Abuse by a Parent, Guardian, or Person of Trust and four counts of First-Degree Sexual Abuse. The guilty plea resolves part of those charges.
Sheriff’s officials have previously emphasized that school-based Prevention Resource Officers play a critical role in building trust with students and helping bring abuse allegations forward.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department Detective Bureau continues to handle matters related to the case. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the department at 304-574-3590 or Crime Stoppers of West Virginia at 304-255-STOP.
