HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Hinton man is facing multiple drug-related charges after deputies say they uncovered a large clandestine laboratory used to manufacture psychedelic substances inside his home.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Summers County, a confidential informant came to the Summers County Sheriff’s Department on October 20, 2025, and provided several photographs allegedly showing a drug lab.
The informant told investigators that the lab was operated by Douglas Berkshire and was being used to manufacture psychedelic mushrooms and Dimethyltryptamine, commonly known as DMT.
Deputies obtained a search warrant for Berkshire’s residence on Pleasant Street in Hinton. When law enforcement executed the warrant, they made contact with Berkshire.
The complaint states that Berkshire confessed to manufacturing both psychedelic mushrooms and DMT, telling deputies that the substances were currently present in his lab.
He also reportedly admitted to delivering the drugs to friends and said there was a small amount of methamphetamine inside the home.
During the search, deputies located the items Berkshire described, including a large drug lab containing various pieces of laboratory equipment and chemicals.
Both psychedelic mushrooms and DMT are classified as Schedule I controlled substances under state law.
Berkshire was taken into custody and charged with Operating a Clandestine Drug Lab, Manufacturing a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance.
He is currently at Southern Regional Jail on a $76,000 bond.
