HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Hinton man was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly threatening to kill his sister and father during a violent domestic disturbance, according to police.
At around 11:30 a.m. on October 7, 2025, Patrolman K. Higginbotham of the Hinton Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting an active domestic situation at a home on Maple Street in Summers County.
When officers arrived, they were met by a female victim, who appeared visibly upset. She told police that her brother, Russell Adkins, had been drinking, shouting insults at her, balling his fists, and threatening to kill her.
Inside the home, officers found Adkins lying on a bed beside a pit bull with a blood-soaked bandage on its head. Both Adkins and the victim told police the dog had been injured while “chasing chickens” and was scheduled for a vet appointment later in the week.
When questioned, Adkins became aggressive, telling the officer, “Get that light out of my [expletive] face,” and referring to his sister using profanities.
The victim later told police that Adkins had recently been released from jail on a domestic battery charge involving their father, who also lives at the residence. The elderly father, age 89, told police he feared for his safety, saying Adkins had struck him in the past.
While the officer was speaking with the victim and her father in another room, Adkins reportedly charged toward them with his fists clenched. Patrolman Higginbotham ordered him to calm down and return to the living room, warning he would be arrested if he continued to act aggressively.
Moments after the officer stepped outside to leave, Adkins began screaming threats inside the home, shouting that he was “going to kill them.” Higginbotham immediately reentered the residence, drawing his department-issued laser.
Adkins then advanced toward the officer, ignoring multiple commands to stop. The officer deployed his laser in drive-stun mode, subduing Adkins and placing him in handcuffs.
A search of Adkins’ pockets revealed two cut straws, which police say are commonly used to ingest controlled substances.
Adkins was taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses, including domestic battery, threats of terrorist acts, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Southern Regional Jail, and the case remains under investigation by the Hinton Police Department.
