CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – For those interested in congressional redistricting, the House Redistricting Committee met this afternoon and advanced a redistricting map to the full House.
The approved map basically follows a north/south division of the state, leaving two House of Representatives districts. The Northern District, if ultimately approved, would be home to current Republican Congressmen David McKinley and Alex Mooney.
Congresswoman Carol Miller, also a Republican, is the lone current representative living in the Southern District.
The Northern District includes both the Northern and Eastern Panhandles while the Southern places Cabell, Kanawha and Putnam counties in the same district.
Following the committee approval, the House met at 3:30 and received the committee report, took the bill (HB302) up for immediate consideration and read it a first time. The House is adjourned until 11 a.m., Wednesday.
A public hearing on redistricting will convene at 8 a.m. tomorrow at the capitol. Those wishing to speak can register beginning at 7 a.m.
