KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human remains found just outside Charleston city limits on Monday afternoon.
According to officials, Metro 911 received a call earlier in the day requesting a welfare check after a possible body was spotted over a hillside along Walnut Gap Road.
Deputies responded to the scene and confirmed the presence of human remains.
In response, crime scene investigators closed both directions of Walnut Gap Road between Dry Branch Road and Hope Lane.
Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area and expect delays.
The investigation is in its early stages. No information has been released about the identity, age, sex, or cause of death of the individual.
Officials say there is no known threat to the community and believe this to be an isolated incident. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
