Charleston – In a rematch of the 2017 and 2019 Class AAA state championship games, Hurricane scored four runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, avenging both losses and holding off a late St. Albans 10-7.
Hurricane was one hit away from ending the game in the fifth, leaving runners on up 10-1 in the fifth.
The Red Dragons had other thoughts.
They scratched out two runs in the sixth to make it 10-3 and exploded for four more in the final frame.
They had the winning run at the plate, but a strikeout ended the game, sending Hurricane to the AAA championship.
St. Albans’ William Campbell led the way for the Red Dragons going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Hurricane’s Ethan Spolarich and Joel Gardner were each 3-for-4 with three RBIs each.
Hurricane will face the winner of Thursday’s matchup between Jefferson and Bridgeport on Saturday at 10 a.m.
