(LOOTPRESS) – A businessman and husband is planning to sue Apple after his wife discovered “deleted” messages he had sent to prostitutes on a different device.
The husband, who is said to be a middle-aged individual from England, alleges that Apple’s lack of transparency regarding deleted messages resulted in his wife filing for divorce. He confessed to having engaged with sex workers using the iMessage app on his iPhone and believed he had deleted the messages. However, these messages were later found by his wife on the family’s iMac computer, including messages dating back several years that he thought he had erased.
Expressing his distress, the man stated, “If you are told a message is deleted, you are entitled to believe it’s deleted.” He described the situation as painful and raw, and suggested that better communication from Apple could have altered the outcome.
The husband is now suing and seeking legal action against Apple, claiming to have lost over £5 million (6.3 million USD) in his divorce and associated legal costs.
His legal representative, Simon Walton from London law firm Rosenblatt, asserted that Apple had not been clear with users about what happens to their messages after deletion, citing instances where messages that were supposedly deleted still appeared on other linked devices.
Walton expressed his eagerness to hear from other Apple customers who may have experienced similar issues, and noted that Apple was contacted by the Telegraph for comment.
