Susie Wiles’ Vanity Fair Remarks Spark Attention Over Comments on Bondi, Vance and Trump

The White House chief of staff said Trump has an "alcoholic's personality."

WASHINGTON, DC (LOOTPRESS) – White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles is disputing a Vanity Fair profile published Tuesday that quoted her making blunt assessments about President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance — comments she now says were taken out of context to create a “disingenuous” portrayal of the administration.

In the article, Wiles was quoted describing Trump as having “an alcoholic’s personality,” explaining that he operates with a sense that “there’s nothing he can’t do.” She told the magazine that people with larger-than-life temperaments often share traits with what she called high-functioning alcoholics.

“My father was an alcoholic,” Wiles said in the interview, referencing legendary sportscaster Pat Summerall, who became sober late in life. “I’m a little bit of an expert in big personalities.”

Vanity Fair also reported that Wiles referred to Vice President JD Vance as “a conspiracy theorist for a decade,” and suggested that his embrace of Trump — after previously criticizing him — was “sort of political.”

Reporter Says Comments Came From March Interview

The article’s author, Chris Whipple, said he interviewed Wiles in March about immigration policy. He quoted her expressing concern about the deportation process after the U.S. removed Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador, whom the administration described as members of the Tren de Aragua gang.

“I will concede that we’ve got to look harder at our process for deportation,” Wiles reportedly said, adding that gang members with confirmed criminal histories could be deported confidently, but cases with uncertainty deserved “a double-check.”

Wiles Denounces Article as a “Hit Piece”

Shortly after the story was published, Wiles took to X to denounce the article, calling it a “disingenuously framed hit piece” that misrepresented her comments and omitted important context.

She wrote that the article attempted to paint “an overwhelmingly chaotic and negative narrative about the President and our team,” insisting that much of what she said about Trump and staff was left out.

White House Defends Wiles

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a strongly worded statement defending Wiles and praising her leadership.

“Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has helped President Trump achieve the most successful first 11 months in office of any President in American history,” Leavitt said. “President Trump has no greater or more loyal advisor than Susie. The entire Administration is grateful for her steady leadership and united fully behind her.”

The White House did not directly address Wiles’ reported comments about Trump or Vance, instead emphasizing her loyalty and contributions to the administration.
