COAL CITY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Independence High School Head Football Coach John Lilly has broken the Raleigh County record for the most football wins.
According to Independence High School, the record was broken with the team’s Thursday night win over Herbert Hoover.

Lilly has been the head coach of the Patriots since 2018 and has had 54 wins.
“Breaking the record for most football wins in Raleigh County history is an incredible milestone. Your leadership, dedication, and love for the game have made such an impact on our players and community,” Independence High School stated in a Facebook post.
“We are proud to celebrate this moment with you- here’s to many more wins and memories!”
Under Lilly, the Patriots won their first football state championship in 2022 and were state runner-up in 2021.
Lilly has also been named a Van Meter Award winner as West Virginia’s top high school coach, along with the Lootpress Coach of the Year.
