HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The evening of August 13th, 2024, became a heart-wrenching one as local police responded to a disturbing call at 1113 10th Avenue about an unresponsive 10-month-old female.
Officers reached at approximately 10:36 p.m. and hastily transported the child to Cabell Huntington Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the child was last seen alive in her mother’s care, identified as Candace Ferrell. Following the incident, authorities executed a search warrant at the residence on 10th Avenue to a harrowing discovery.
Inside the child’s playpen, known as a pack and play, investigators found the infant and approximately 37 blue pills stamped with “M30,” a common marking for an often fentanyl-laced counterfeit pill.
An autopsy conducted shortly after the child’s death confirmed that the cause was fentanyl intoxication. The investigation of the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death is ongoing, and police expect to make additional releases over the coming days.
The mother, Candace Ferrell, is charged with child neglect resulting in death.
