BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce is currently seeking information in relation to an aged photo submitted in which an apparent Beckley baseball team is depicted.
Chamber of Commerce Information Coordinator Joe Guffy shared the photo for viewing with the Raleigh County Historical Society on Wednesday, revealing that a member of the public had submitted it and was seeking further information.
A letter included with the photo reveals that it features the grandfather of the sender who was a member of the baseball team shown.
“I was given this picture w/ frame over 60 years ago by my grandparents. My grand-dad was Lloyd Straight, and he and his wife lived in Beckley I would assume from 1900 – 1920. My dad was born there in 1921. His name was Edward Lee Straight,” reads the letter.
”This picture is a town baseball team and my grandad is one of the players. I was told that the picture dates from 1903.”
