RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — An inmate is facing additional charges after authorities say he was found in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia while being transported to Southern Regional Jail.
According to a report filed by a West Virginia State Trooper, the incident occurred on Friday, April 10, 2026, when law enforcement responded to a call involving contraband discovered inside a patrol vehicle.
Upon arrival, the trooper made contact with Wyoming County Deputy M. Perry, who advised that his prisoner, identified as Aaron Beckett Browning, had been transported in his patrol vehicle to Southern Regional Jail. The deputy stated he had checked the rear compartment of the cruiser prior to transport and confirmed there was no contraband present at that time.
However, after arriving at the jail, the deputy discovered a clear crystal-like substance and a glass pipe on the floorboard near where Browning had been seated.
Authorities say the substance, weighing approximately 34.56 grams, is suspected to be methamphetamine based on the trooper’s training and experience. The glass pipe, commonly used to ingest illegal substances, was also recovered at the scene.
The suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia were collected and entered into evidence at the Beckley Detachment.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges against Browning are expected.
