RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An inmate at Southern Regional Jail has been confirmed dead.
According to the West Virginia Division of Corrections (WVDOC), an incarcerated man, 24, was found unresponsive in his cell Friday morning at the Southern Regional Jail Correctional Facility, according to authorities with the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Staff performed life-saving procedures to attempt to revive him and the inmate was transferred to Beckley ARH Hospital.
Unfortunately, the inmate was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
No additional information is available at this time as this incident is under investigation by the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Criminal Investigation Division and the West Virginia State Police.
The West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation says that it is committed to the safety, quality of life, and well-being of those in the care of the legal system in the state.
“We empathize with the friends and families of those that have experienced the loss of a loved one that was placed in our care,” the WVDOC said in a statement.
