BERKELEY COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man shot and killed an intruder who was inside his mother’s vacant home.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, a man was shot and killed early Wednesday morning following a reported burglary attempt at a vacant residence on Winchester Avenue.
At approximately 3:46 AM on September 11, 2024, Berkeley Central Dispatch received a 911 call from a man reporting that he had just shot an intruder at his mother’s empty home.
Deputies Hott, Pierce, Cooper, Knotts, Wolfe, and Chronister responded to the scene, where they found a man lying face down with a gunshot wound.
Deputies immediately began life-saving measures until emergency medical services arrived, but the man was pronounced dead shortly after EMS reached the scene.
Investigators identified the deceased as 38-year-old Joshua Boone of Williamsport, MD.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, Boone’s next of kin has been notified.
Criminal investigators from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, including Detectives Funk, Jenkins, and Giangola IV, were called to process the scene and conduct a thorough investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate the shooter responded to the property after being alerted to a possible burglary, leading to the fatal encounter with Boone.
The investigation remains ongoing and will be submitted to the Berkeley County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
