WASHINGTON, D.C. (LOOTPRESS) – U.S. Senator Jim Justice (R-WV) addressed concerns Thursday about delays to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits caused by the ongoing federal government shutdown.
“I do not think that the president, nor anyone here, will let that really happen. People don’t care if it’s the Republican’s or Democrat’s fault but they absolutely have to have these dollars these SNAP benefits,” Justice said.
“They have to have them, and if they don’t have them, the families are going to get really, really, really hurt. And they don’t know what in the world to do. What are they going to do? I can’t really believe that at the end of the day what’s going to happen here is if we’re going to do something to hurt those folks.”
That don’t really mean a whole lot right now but trust me be, I am wholeheartedly in it.”
Concerns grew after the West Virginia Department of Health & Human Services announced Saturday that SNAP benefits will be delayed due to the shutdown.
According to the department, October 2025 benefits that are approved on or after October 16 will be delayed.
Officials also warned that it is “very likely” November 2025 benefits will be delayed for all recipients “if Congress does not take action to reopen the government in the coming days.”
“We understand that this news may raise concerns, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this federal issue,” the agency said. “We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.”
