CLINTONVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A juvenile has died following a shooting incident Saturday afternoon in the Shoestring Trail area of Clintonville, according to the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 4:26 p.m. on September 6, deputies were dispatched after the Greenbrier County 911 Center received reports of a gunshot wound. Emergency crews from the Clintonville Fire Department, White Sulphur Springs EMS, and Fairlea EMS were already on scene performing lifesaving measures when deputies arrived. Despite their efforts, the juvenile was pronounced dead at the residence.
The Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team responded to process the scene. Four other juveniles were identified as being present in the home at the time of the incident, including three who were inside the room where the shooting occurred. All were transported to the Lewisburg Detachment of the Sheriff’s Office for interviews, accompanied by their guardians.
Members of the Greenbrier County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, and Child Protective Services assisted due to the ages of those involved. After interviews and evidence collection, all juveniles were released to their families.
Authorities say the investigation remains active pending forensic evidence results and an autopsy by the West Virginia Chief Medical Examiner’s Office. Deputy S.H. Peacock is leading the investigation.
No names are being released because all individuals involved are minors.
In a statement, the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office and Prosecuting Attorney’s Office extended their condolences: “The thoughts and prayers of our offices are with the family, friends, and all affected by this tragedy.”
