BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Commission assembled Tuesday morning for their regular meeting, during which the Shady Spring High School Girls Volleyball team was officially recognized as the 2021 Runners Up in the WV AA State Championship through a commission proclamation.
Prior to the reading of the proclamation, Commissioner Duckworth addressed the team directly, applauding their efforts throughout the season.
“We’re glad to have you all here today, and I’d like to take a moment to tell you how proud we are of you all,” said Duckworth during the meeting. “You all have done a great job, thank you for that.”
The Lady Tigers met Philip Barbour once again in the WV AA State Championships for the 2021 season after a 3-0 win in 2020 to claim the title.
However, it would be Philip Barbour who would prevail in this matchup – albeit by a thin margin – with a final score of 3-2 in favor of the Colts.
Nonetheless, one would be remiss not to acknowledge the significant ability which this lineup brings to the table.
Team members even reunited to participate in April’s Volleyball 4 Autism tournament fundraiser where the Shady team claimed the 2022 Experienced Division title. Coverage of this event can be seen here.
Shady Spring’s own Meg Williams was even honored as the Volleyball Player of the Year at the Fall 2021 Lootpress Sports Banquet, coverage of which can be found here.
The proclamation honoring the Shady Spring High School 2021 State of WV Girls AA Volleyball Runners Up was read aloud by Raleigh County Administrator Jay Quesenberry as follows,
WHEREAS, the hard work, dedication, sportsmanship, talent, and exceptional team chemistry of the 2021 Shady Spring High School Girls Volleyball team enabled these student athletes to be Runners Up of the West Virginia AA Girls Volleyball Championship; and
