HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A late-night disturbance at St. Mary’s Hospital turned chaotic when a man began making threatening hand gestures and refused to leave the premises, according to Huntington police.
Around 12:06 a.m., officers responded to the hospital at 2900 1st Avenue following reports of a male subject behaving erratically—mimicking gun gestures and creating concern among staff and patients. The man was identified as Tyler Schoolcraft.
Upon arrival, officers observed Schoolcraft slurring his speech, struggling to stand, and cursing at hospital staff—at one point shouting, “F** you.”* Officers quickly assessed that he was likely under the influence of alcohol.
When an officer attempted to assist Schoolcraft in standing, he reportedly tensed his body and moved his hand toward his waistband in a motion consistent with drawing a weapon. Concerned for public safety, officers immediately took him down onto a nearby hospital cot and placed him in handcuffs without further incident.
Schoolcraft was transported to Huntington Police Department Headquarters for processing and later booked at the Western Regional Jail. Charges are pending, but authorities confirmed his behavior posed a threat to the safety and operation of the hospital.
No injuries were reported during the encounter.
