LEWISBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Lewisburg woman with a history of shoplifting charges was arrested on Monday after allegedly attempting to steal merchandise from Walmart. Destiny B. Hager was charged with third-offense shoplifting and obstructing an officer after police responded to a complaint at the store.
At approximately 3:00 PM, Patrolman J.M. Thomas and Sergeant J.T. Williams II of the Lewisburg Police Department were dispatched to the Walmart on a shoplifting complaint. The caller, Debra Smith, reported that a woman wearing a camouflage jacket and blue jeans had exited the store with unpaid merchandise and entered the back of a gray Ford F-150 parked near the pharmacy entrance.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers located the truck and found Hager sitting in the back seat. The front passenger initially denied entering the store but admitted that Hager had. The front passenger further indicated that a pink bag on the back floorboard contained items Hager had taken from the store.
Sergeant Williams retrieved the bag from the vehicle, revealing merchandise valued at $249.99 that Hager had carried past the Walmart registers without paying. While officers were investigating, Hager requested an energy drink. After being denied the request, she attempted to retrieve it from the front passenger of the vehicle. At this point, Sergeant Williams placed Hager in mechanical restraints for obstructing the investigation.
Patrolman Thomas transported Hager to the rear of the store for processing and later to the Lewisburg Police Department. After completing the booking process, Hager was taken to the Southern Regional Jail, where she will remain until her arraignment in Greenbrier County Magistrate Court.
Hager was charged with shoplifting (third offense) and obstructing an officer. Under West Virginia law, a third-offense shoplifting charge is a felony. Hager has prior convictions for shoplifting from incidents on July 4, 2023, and March 4, 2014.
