GLEN DANIEL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – It was announced Tuesday that Liberty High School has been named a recipient of the 2021 School of Excellence Award by the American College Application Campaign.
The American College Application Campaign, or ACAC, is part of a national effort to increase the number of first-generation low-income-family college students each year through encouragement to apply to and pursue a college education.
Tools such as www.CFWV.com and initiatives College Application and Exploration Week (CAEW), College Decision Day, and FAFSA events increased student participation in college preparation programs substantially at Liberty High School.
The school’s senior students displayed a marked improvement over last year’s departing class in terms of post secondary application completion during College Application and Exploration Week, increasing the numbers by a third.
The students also met the statewide completion rate of 60 percent for FAFSA within the first two months of the FAFSA opening.
ACAC Director Lisa King spoke of the students’ perseverance in breaking established barriers, remarking, “We’re proud the Schools of Excellence are helping to remove the barriers to post secondary education access that often drive income inequalities.”
Liberty High School is one of only 19 schools across the United States upon which this honor has been bestowed.
“Our office is so proud to work with high schools across West Virginia, every single day, to help more young people pursue their college and career goals,” stated West Virginia Chancellor of Higher Education, Sarah Armstrong Tucker. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see a stand-out school like Liberty High School be recognized nationally for their work in helping their students achieve more. Congratulations to the Raiders – you deserve this!”
Governor Justice even took to social media to recognize the fantastic achievement, offering a succinct, “Congrats!” to Liberty High School.
