Chapmanville – After dropping a game to Huntington Saturday, the task was clear for the Central Greenbrier Little League All-Stars Sunday, win or go home.
The Greenbrier County lads were content on sticking around for another day.
Following a 7-4 win over Chapmanville in the afternoon, Central Greenbrier recorded the daily double with an 11-0 victory over Fairmont in four innings in the nightcap.
Central Greenbrier will now play the loser of Hurricane-Huntington Monday at 7:30 p.m., also in Chapmanville. A win for Central Greenbrier will send it to the championship round starting Tuesday.
Trailing 3-1 against Chapmanville, Central Greenbrier tied the game in the top of the third inning.
Carter Huffman singled and scored on a triple from Michael Boothe before Boothe evened the contest on a single from Hendo Bostic.
The game was all square into the fifth when Central Greenbrier exploded for the decisive four runs.
Trenton Skaggs was hit by a pitch to open the frame and James Godby followed with a single bringing lead-off man Peyton Ervin to the dish. Ervin then ripped a triple to center-field scoring both runners for a 5-3 lead.
Walks to Huffman and Boothe loaded the bases for Bostic who singled home the final two runs of the game for Central Greenbrier.
Godby pitched the final five innings to get the win allowing just two runs on four hits.
Game two against Fairmont was all Central Greenbrier who exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning to bring home the win.
Central Greenbrier took the early 1-0 lead when Acen Workman earned a bases loaded walk.
Although the bats were quiet for the next two innings, Central Greenbrier starting pitcher Dillon Jackson and some solid defense kept Fairmont at bay.
Bostic and Workman opened the fourth with back-to-back singles to jump-start the eruption. With runners at second and third, Jackson sent the first run home on a ground out.
Workman made it a 3-0 game when he stole home and Central Greenbrier reloaded with four straight singles for a 4-0 lead.
The bulk of the damage in the inning, however, came with two outs.
Ervin’s bases loaded triple was followed by a triple from Huffman pushing the Central Greenbrier lead to an 8-0 advantage.
Huffman then scored via an error on Boothe’s grounder before Bostic singled for his fifth hit of the day.
Workman capped the explosion with a double for the 11-0 margin.
Princeton faced the same scenario as Central Greenbrier, but fell to Charleston Central 9-4 in its first game of the day in Madison.
Josiah Tunstalle and Sam Lambert each had two hits, including a double, while Maxton Harvey and Taylor Thomas each had an RBI.
