BECKLEY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – After a year of business, the Busy Bee Bakery in Beckley is resting its wings.
Owner Brittany Bailey-Cline released the following statement on the business’ Facebook page Wednesday evening:
I want to start off by saying thank you to everyone who has supported our journey with Busy Bee Bakery! This has been an amazing journey with amazing memories for our family. I’m so proud of everything we accomplished in such a short time. It’s something we’re all so proud of and it could have been a successful thriving business for years and years to come…But I’m sorry to say that this is our final weeks at the bakery.
We have our reasons for closing the bakery…
The bakery has done amazing since we opened our doors and has grown into something much bigger than we ever could handle as two people and a small family. The success story of this bakery is something we are all so proud of! It’s much bigger than us (which is super amazing!) but it’s just too hard on us. We never dreamed the bakery would do as well as it does… lines around the building, so many sell out days, awesome reviews, winning the award for favorite place to get a dessert, daily regulars, and even traveling customers… which is amazing but it’s time for us to say goodbye.
Cline cited several reasons for the closure and said there were even more personal issues that led to the decision.
“I don’t think anyone will ever understand the physical/mental stress, work, sacrifices, time, and money you have to invest into a small business…I have learned that having this bakery is more sacrifice than reward. It completely took over our lives… and would have quickly [taken] over our possible futures and other opportunities in life,” she wrote.
A wedding photographer first, Cline says she will continue with the photography career that she has built over the last seven years.
“I’ve realized that photography is the job I’m meant to do and offer in this world… Sometimes chasing your dreams is a good thing and the bakery was my dream but sometimes you’re meant to do something different in life.”
The bakery’s brick-and-mortar location on Robert C Byrd Drive has been sold. Busy Bee’s last day in business will be Saturday, December 18, 2021.
