FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Barry Crist, a Republican and longtime Fayette County educator and administrator, is seeking a seat on the Fayette County Commission.
Crist began his career in Fayette County in 1986 as a teacher and served in the Fayette County School system for 32 years, including 24 years as an administrator. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts in 1986 from West Virginia Institute of Technology.
He later completed a Master’s Degree in Special Education from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies in 1989 and earned a second Master’s Degree in Administration from Marshall University in 1994.
Crist retired from the Fayette County School System in 2018. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as Coordinator of Career and Technical Programs for the county and as administrator of Fayette Institute of Technology (FIT).
During his tenure at FIT, the school was recognized as the top Career and Technical Center in West Virginia. It received West Virginia Exemplary School status and was twice awarded the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence designation. Under his leadership, all technical programs at FIT earned national certification.
Following his retirement, Crist launched a consulting business providing educational consulting services throughout West Virginia.
He currently serves on the governing boards of Rainelle Medical Center and Bridge Valley Community and Technical College. He is also a member of the Ansted Lions Club and a longtime member of Ansted Wesleyan Church.
Crist resides in Victor, with his wife, Kim.
He says he is running for County Commission to bring transparency, fiscal responsibility and what he describes as “common sense leadership” to Fayette County.
Crist has stated that he supports law enforcement and firefighters, strengthening infrastructure, keeping communities safe and ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.
Crist said he is ready to serve Fayette County and its citizens if elected.
He will face Christopher Burford and Teresa Pullen Dorsey in the May 12th Primary Election.
