BEAVER, WV (LOOTPRESS) — An inmate at Southern Regional Jail is facing a felony charge after correctional officers discovered a vial containing a white powdery substance believed to be fentanyl during the booking process.
According to a West Virginia State Police report, the incident happened around 1:00 a.m. on February 3, 2026, when a complaint was received about an inmate in possession of suspected contraband at the Beaver facility.
Troopers say a Mercer County officer had transported the woman, identified as Crystal Gore to the jail for processing. While in booking, Correctional Officer Niday reportedly noticed the inmate adjusting her shirt and questioned her. Authorities say the inmate then handed over a small clear vial with a black lid containing a white powdery substance.
A responding trooper later collected the vial, and jail staff conducted a field test that indicated the substance was fentanyl, a Schedule II controlled substance.
Officials say the entire incident was captured on jail surveillance video.
The accused has been charged with one felony count related to contraband in a correctional facility (aiding escape). The case remains under investigation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
