FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly attacking an emergency medical worker and fleeing from an officer at the scene of a vehicle crash.
According to a criminal complaint, law enforcement was investigating a crash near 19-60 Midland Trail on August 7 when Denny Kincaid was observed directing traffic.
Police said Kincaid became belligerent when an ambulance arrived and began yelling at emergency personnel. He allegedly climbed onto the side of the ambulance, struck an EMS worker and attempted to open the ambulance door to continue the confrontation.
An officer pulled Kincaid away and ordered him to place his hands behind his back, but he allegedly refused and fled on foot. The complaint states Kincaid stopped at one point, turned toward the officer and took an aggressive stance before running again.
Kincaid eventually stopped and was detained. While inside the police cruiser, he reported experiencing chest pain, prompting officers to request another EMS unit.
Police said Kincaid again became belligerent and threatened officers as they attempted to remove his handcuffs for a medical evaluation. He was then placed under arrest and transported to Plateau Medical Center.
While at the hospital, Kincaid allegedly became disruptive and threw himself from a chair onto the floor while screaming.
Authorities later requested a mental hygiene emergency order due to concerns about his behavior and mental condition. The order was granted, and Kincaid was transported to Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital for additional treatment.
Kincaid is expected to be charged with battery on emergency medical service personnel, obstructing an officer, fleeing on foot and disorderly conduct.
The charges are allegations. Kincaid is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
