BARBOUR COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — What began as a routine warrant service turned into a heated standoff Sunday when a Barbour County man allegedly blocked law enforcement officers in a driveway, refused to let them leave, and launched into a profanity-laced tirade.
On July 27, 2025, deputies with the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Dark Horse Drive to serve an active arrest warrant on a known female subject. Deputies J.G. Elbon, Cpl. Parks, and Deputy Boise attempted to locate the woman but were informed by Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown that she had been discharged the previous day.
As the deputies prepared to leave the property, they were blocked in by an orange-colored vehicle, driven by a man later identified as Joseph Jordan. Jordan reportedly exited the vehicle and approached the deputies aggressively, cellphone in hand, demanding their names and the reason for their presence.
“You ain’t getting out of here unless you tell me your name,” Jordan told one deputy, according to the report. Even after being given the information, Jordan allegedly refused to move his vehicle, stating that he had also locked the gate with a chain and padlock, intentionally preventing their exit.
Despite eight separate requests from law enforcement to move the vehicle, Jordan allegedly responded with escalating hostility. “Don’t tell me what to do, I’ll move it when I’m f***ing ready,” he yelled before finally returning to his vehicle and driving to the gate — only to continue berating the deputies.
Eventually, after continued verbal resistance, Jordan unlocked the gate and allowed the deputies to leave the property.
The charges against Jordan are for obstruction of justice or interference with law enforcement.
