FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Florida man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly cashing counterfeit payroll checks tied to a Beckley towing company at several Southern West Virginia bank branches.
According to the West Virginia State Police, Troopers received a fraud complaint on February 27, 2026, from Teddy Gray, owner of Glen’s Towing and Road Service in Beckley.
Gray told investigators that Pendleton Community Bank contacted him after a man allegedly cashed two counterfeit checks using Glen’s Towing payroll account information. Gray said the bank had already reimbursed the stolen funds.
Troopers later spoke with bank employee Brandi Cantley, who reported that the suspect cashed one counterfeit check for $2,875.13 at the bank’s Oak Hill branch and another for $2,665.13 at its Mount Hope branch on February 26.
Investigators said the suspect used a Florida driver’s license during the transactions.
Authorities said the same man later entered the Beckley branch while bank employees were discussing the counterfeit checks over the phone. According to the complaint, the suspect overheard the conversation and abruptly left the bank without completing any transaction.
Police said bank officials provided 21 surveillance videos from all three branch locations. Using the Florida identification presented during the transactions, Troopers identified the suspect as Sidney Allen Jarrell.
Investigators also discovered that one of the counterfeit checks allegedly used the exact same check number as a legitimate payroll check still inside Gray’s checkbook.
Jarrell is accused of two counts of possession of counterfeit documents with intent to utter and two counts of forging or uttering other writings.
The alleged crimes occurred in Fayette County.
