LEWISBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A domestic disturbance call led to the arrest of a Greenbrier County man early Friday morning after a chaotic series of events involving gunfire, an alleged assault, and a police K-9 alert for possible narcotics.
At approximately 1:13 a.m. on August 1, Deputy B. Mitchell of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call about a domestic situation unfolding on the 3000 block of Route 60 West, just outside Lewisburg. Upon arrival, deputies located a woman sitting in her vehicle on a roadside pull-off with a male subject, later identified as Zachary Null, in the back passenger seat.
According to police, Null refused to exit the vehicle when ordered. Deputies Mitchell and W. Cutlip physically removed Null from the car and placed him in restraints.
The woman told officers the night began at Hill and Holler, where she was spending time with friends when Null showed up behaving erratically. The group then went to the Sweet Shoppe for karaoke, but Null’s behavior allegedly made her friends uncomfortable, prompting them to leave her behind.
She attempted to leave on her own when Null entered her car and refused to get out. As she drove north on Court Street, she said Null leaned out of the window and fired a gunshot. When a police vehicle passed nearby, Null allegedly hid the pistol under the driver’s seat. She claimed she later tossed the gun into Null’s vehicle when he wasn’t paying attention, telling him to leave, but he still refused.
Eventually, she pulled over at a wide spot along Route 60 in an attempt to get him out. It was then, according to the victim, that the confrontation turned physical. She told deputies she was bitten on her right shoulder and injured her thumbnail during the struggle. She used Siri to call 911.
Lewisburg Police Sgt. J.T. Williams II secured Null’s vehicle, which was later towed to the Lewisburg Police Department to obtain a search warrant after a firearm was seen inside.
K-9 Officer Kora conducted a sniff of Null’s vehicle and gave a positive alert at both the front driver and rear passenger doors — a notable result given Null’s known history with narcotics, police said.
Null faces charges related to firearms violations, assault, and possible drug-related offenses.
The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department and Lewisburg Police Department are jointly handling the case.
