LERONA, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Mercer County man is facing charges after allegedly firing multiple rounds from his porch following a domestic-related incident Friday evening.
According to the West Virginia State Police, troopers were dispatched on May 1, 2026, to Bent Mountain Road in Lerona after a 911 caller reported shots being fired during an argument between a man and a woman.
While en route, dispatchers advised that the suspect had been seen on his front porch yelling “come get some” and repeatedly firing a weapon in the direction of a neighboring residence. Witnesses also reported the man went inside several times and returned with different firearms, continuing to shoot.
When troopers arrived, they located the suspect, identified as Jeffrey Shrewsbury, lying in his driveway with a pistol nearby. He was detained without incident as officers secured the weapon and cleared the residence to ensure no one inside had been injured.
Shrewsbury told troopers his soon-to-be ex-wife had been at the home earlier to retrieve belongings. He stated there was no argument but admitted he had been drinking and began firing shots from both the front and back porch after she left.
Investigators later recovered multiple .308 shell casings from the front porch and observed damage to a window of Shrewsbury’s own home, which appeared to have been struck by a round fired from outside into the residence. Troopers noted the suspect’s actions were reckless, especially given a neighboring home sits approximately 100 yards away.
The complainant told authorities she and others were outside when the shooting began and became frightened after seeing rounds fired in their direction. She added that similar behavior had reportedly occurred before, though they are not usually outside when it happens. No damage was reported to her residence.
Shrewsbury was arrested at the scene and transported to the Princeton detachment before being taken to the Bluefield Police Department to await arraignment. Charges against him are pending.
