SUMMERS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly threatening a Summers County Sheriff’s deputy with a knife during the investigation of a suspicious person complaint Monday.
According to the Summers County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Ward responded to a report of a suspicious person along Route 20 near Bluestone Lake. When he arrived, he located a white Ford Ranger and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Tommy Prater.
Deputies said Prater exited the vehicle while armed with a knife and made threatening statements toward Sgt. Ward. Sgt. Ward was able to safely take Prater into custody without further incident.
Following the investigation, Prater was charged with brandishing a weapon, obstructing an officer and simple possession.
The Summers County Sheriff’s Office commended Sgt. Ward for his professionalism and restraint in safely resolving what it described as a potentially dangerous situation.
Prater is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
