WOOD COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On October 1, 2024, deputies from the Wood County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Stillwell Road.
The incident involved a vehicle that had rolled multiple times, although initial reports of the car being on fire were later determined to be inaccurate.
Upon arrival, deputies found the vehicle overturned and partially blocking the westbound lane.
The driver, identified as Adam Yarnell of Marietta, Ohio, told officers that he had blacked out while driving east on U.S. Route 50.
Investigators determined that Yarnell had veered off the road into the grassy median at a high speed.
His vehicle struck a metal drainage grate, causing it to become airborne. The car flipped multiple times before landing on its roof, coming to rest in the westbound lane.
Yarnell was transported to Camden Clark Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Authorities plan to file multiple charges against him, including driving under the influence (DUI), reckless operation, inhaling intoxicating substances, failure to wear a seatbelt, and driving without proof of insurance.
The Deerwalk Volunteer Fire Department, Camden Clark Ambulance Service, and St. Joe Ambulance Service responded to the scene to provide assistance.
