CABELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A suspected vehicle break-in turned into an intense foot chase and standoff early Sunday morning, ending with the arrest of a man found hiding inside a cluttered shed in Huntington’s West End.
At approximately 4:30 a.m. on May 18, 2025, an officer patrolling near the 400 block of W. 7th Avenue noticed a white male tampering with the driver’s side of a utility pickup truck on W. 3rd Street. When the officer attempted to make contact, the suspect fled on foot through nearby yards and alleyways.
Multiple Huntington Police Department units joined the pursuit, including Officer Holbrook and Cpl. Maynard, along with K-9 Officer Jett. The chase continued through fences and residential areas until the suspect was finally located by the K-9 unit hiding in a packed shed at 627 W. Division Street.
Despite repeated verbal commands, the suspect—later identified as Christopher Casto—refused to cooperate and kept his hands hidden. Officers used a Taser and, when that failed, deployed physical tactics to safely gain control of Casto and place him under arrest. A drive stun was eventually used to gain compliance during the struggle, allowing officers to fully restrain him.
Casto was treated at the scene along with one of the responding officers, and both were transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital for further evaluation.
Charges related to attempted breaking and entering, obstruction, and fleeing from law enforcement have been filed.
