BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Raleigh County man faces charges after discharging a firearm outside of a Beckley apartment.
According to reports from Officer Smith with the Beckley Police Department, on Monday, October 30, 2023, the Raleigh County Emergency Operations Center dispatched authorities to the Hangrove Street apartments in response to reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival at the apartment in question, Officer Smith made contact with the defendant – identified as Jordan Painter, 24 years old of Beckley, WV – who stated he had been “arguing with his neighbors” prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
Painter indicated that he frequently encounters issues with the other tenants occupying the apartment complex, and that on this day he had been involved in a verbal altercation with an individual identified as the victim in official reports. The defendant advised that, following this altercation, he went back inside his apartment, opened the door, and fired off a single shot into the air.
Making entry into the residence, law enforcement located a 9mm Hi-Point weapon beneath where the defendant had been sitting on a living room couch.
Jordan Painter was placed under arrest on one count of wanton endangerment. The firearm involved was reportedly logged into a Beckley Police Department evidence locker.
The victim in the incident, identified only as a female in the criminal complaint, is reported to have provided a written statement advising that she had been standing outside when Painter was seen to have opened his door and discharged a firearm. Upon being processed, Painter was transported to the Raleigh County Magistrate Court to be arraigned.
