PENDLETON COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On October 23, 2023, at approximately 2:46 p.m., Sgt. McDougal and Cpl. Ware was notified by Pendleton County 911 of a structure fire and a possible deceased person on Grey Goose Lane in Sugar Grove, WV.
Upon the Troopers and Fire Department’s arrival, the building was fully engulfed.
A deceased victim was located outside the rear corner of the building. The victim had suffered significant burns over his entire body. Further investigation identified the victim as 61-year-old Raymond Auville, of Riverton, WV., a handyman working at the property. Sgt. As the lead investigator, McDougal identified a suspect as the investigation continued to develop.
On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Corporal Ware obtained warrants for the arrest of 35-year-old Zachary Mongold of Petersburg, WV, on the charges of 1st Degree Murder and 1st Degree Arson.
On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Zachary Mongold was located in Burlington, Mineral County, WV, where he was arrested without incident. Mr. Mongold was subsequently transported to Potomac Highlands Regional Jail to be held pending arraignment. This investigation remains active and ongoing.
