HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after hitting his aunt in the head and throwing food at her garage after she allegedly used his food stamps.
According to a criminal complaint, on August 28th, 2023 at approximately 8:30 PM, officers received a 911 call in reference to a domestic dispute at a residence on Lonnie Mann Road in Hinton.
Upon arrival, police spoke with the victim who stated she had asked her nephew, 34-year-old Benny Adkins, to get his dog, Adkins responded by throwing the dog over the fence as the victim was going back inside.
The victim told police that while she was inside she heard a loud bang but when she looked she didn’t see anything. She stated that Adkins then began messaging her and demanding she give him his food back.
The victim stated that she began hearing banging noises again and observed Adkins throwing canned food at her garage. The victim and another woman went outside and observed several food items on and around the victim’s garage.
The victim told police that Adkins then struck her in the back of the head. Police then spoke with Adkins who stated he had thrown the food because the victim had used his food stamps and tried to give him food from a pantry to replace them.
The victim stated they had used Adkin’s food stamp card in order to purchase ingredients for a taco pizza that the Adkins asked the victim to make.
The complaint further alleges that Adkins did not acknowledge hitting the victim but did however state he was angry because he believed the victim to be the reason his mother had died.
Adkins was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery. He is currently out on bond.
