LEWISBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Greenbrier County man was arrested early Friday morning following a domestic disturbance that unfolded on Washington Street near Court Street in downtown Lewisburg.
According to a report from the Lewisburg Police Department, officers were dispatched around midnight after a 911 caller reported a possible domestic incident. When officers arrived, they found a woman — later identified as the victim— sitting on the ground, crying and struggling to breathe, surrounded by several bystanders.
Officers quickly detained the suspect, identified as Travis Cossey, while Patrolman Thomas checked on the victim and placed her in a patrol vehicle to calm down and wait for EMS.
Witnesses at the scene told police that Cossey appeared intoxicated and had shoved the victim to the ground during an argument.
One witness said he had been helping the victim connect her phone to his hotspot when Cossey became enraged, pushed her, and later got into a physical altercation with another man. Both witnesses provided written statements confirming the sequence of events.
Officers noted the smell of alcohol on Cossey and reported that he was slurring his words while being questioned. He denied pushing the victim but admitted to a confrontation with the men nearby.
Both Cossey and the victim were taken to the Lewisburg Police Department for further investigation. Cossey was booked and transported to the Southern Regional Jail.
He has been charged with Domestic Batter and Public Intoxication.
