BLUEFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man faces charges in relation to an altercation which took place earlier this month at his mother’s Bluefield residence.
According to Patrolman S.D. Copenhaver of the Bluefield Police Department, on Thursday, November 3, 2022, a domestic situation was reported at approximately 11:05am involving a Mrs. Tina Buford and her son Mr. Lynn Michael Buford Jr.
The mother informed Officer Copenhaver that her son had been arguing with her and had been getting very aggressive, behavior which she advised was not out of the ordinary. Officer Copenhaver spoke with Mr. Buford and asked if he would leave for the day to reduce conflict, to which he agreed.
Before leaving the residence, Mr. Buford knelt to the ground and prayed “that God would come and take away his mom’s last breath like he did to his dad.” Mr. Buford was then instructed by the officer to go on and leave and to not return to the residence.
Another call was received from Mercer Control at approximately 2:05pm reporting a second call from Mrs. Buford who said that her son had returned to the residence and had begun causing a scene.
Upon Officer Copenhaver’s return to the residence he found Mr. Buford sitting on the steps of the residence. Mr. Buford stated that he had returned to the residence to retrieve his phone and was getting ready to leave.
Officer Copenhaver instructed Mr. Buford not to return to the residence or even to the same street as the residence. Leaving the street, Mr. Buford went to the park and sat on a bench approximately 100 yards in front of his mother’s residence.
Officer Copenhaver then spoke with Mrs. Buford who advised that her son had threatened to kill her and started praying to God asking him to kill her. Mrs. Buford provided a written statement regarding these events.
Mr. Buford was then placed under arrest for Domestic Assault based on the incident which had occurred and was transported to the Bluefield City Jail, processed accordingly, and left to await arraignment.
Mrs. Buford was advised of the DVP process, and the prospect of getting a mental hygiene on Mr. Buford was discussed.
