WESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A man is facing charges after a reported assault in a Weston parking lot escalated into a physical confrontation with law enforcement.
The incident happened around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in the parking lot of the Sheetz located on Berlin Road.
According to authorities, an officer conducting a routine traffic stop was flagged down by a woman shouting that she had been assaulted. The woman, identified as Charity L. Mayle, told police that a man — later identified as Jonathan A. Davis — approached the driver’s side of her vehicle, began yelling at her, and attempted to slam the car door on her, striking her elbow.
Mayle said she believed Davis intended to harm her.
When officers attempted to speak with Davis, they reportedly detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Police say Davis repeatedly tried to move closer to the officer while making disruptive comments.
As officers attempted to continue their investigation, Davis allegedly began shouting again toward Mayle. He was detained and placed in a patrol vehicle but had to be instructed multiple times to sit down.
During a pat-down conducted by responding officers from the West Virginia State Police and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, Davis became physically resistant, leading officers to take him to the ground to gain control.
Authorities say Davis also made verbal threats toward officers during the struggle and grabbed a state trooper inappropriately during the altercation.
After being restrained, Davis was evaluated by Lewis County EMS but declined medical treatment.
He was transported to Central Regional Jail without further incident.
The incident occurred within Lewis County.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
