HURRICANE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was arrested Sunday afternoon following a public domestic disturbance behind the Wingate Hotel in Hurricane, West Virginia.
Police responded to the scene around 4:52 p.m. after multiple 911 callers reported a man and woman fighting in a gravel lot near a camper adjacent to the hotel. Witnesses said a crowd had gathered, drawn by the commotion.
Upon arrival, officers were approached by two women who said the male suspect had fled on a bicycle. They provided a photograph, which led to the immediate identification of the suspect as 32-year-old Derrick Alan Harrison, known to police from prior incidents. Captain T.J. Dillon quickly located and detained Harrison on Lynn Street, wearing the same clothing described by witnesses.
The female involved in the altercation was located shortly after on Montana Avenue and transported for further questioning.
Multiple witnesses, including hotel guests and two teenage employees of a nearby restaurant, reported hearing the man yelling aggressively and what sounded like physical strikes. One witness recalled hearing the man threaten the woman over a dispute about food, stating, “If you won’t decide what you want, then you just won’t eat. I swear to God I’m going to [expletive] beat you.”
During a search following the arrest, officers found a folded piece of paper in Harrison’s pocket containing a white powder, which he admitted was fentanyl. He also attempted to conceal the substance by kicking it away.
Harrison is facing charges of Domestic Assault, Domestic Battery, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
