BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man faces charges after he allegedly punched a woman causing severe damage to her face.
On Saturday, June 5, 2021, police were dispatched to Raleigh General Hospital about an assault that had occurred and that a female was unresponsive. Â When police arrived, the suspect, Latif Portee, was sitting on the curb outside and said that he and his girlfriend had been drinking and started to argue. Â While arguing, Portee stated he got angry and punched the woman in the face while in the parking lot of the Lewis Ritchie apartments.
Mr. Portee said he thought it was best he brought the victim to the hospital for treatment after seeing what he had done. However, when the police went to talk to the victim, she was unresponsive. Â The attending doctor advised police that the victim had multiple facial fractures, including multiple broken teeth and a crushed orbital bone. Â The victim also had massive bleeding behind her swollen eye. They had decided to send her to Charleston via helicopter due to the facial trauma she had been subjected to and that she may lose her eye without emergency surgery.
Portee was arrested and charged with malicious wounding and domestic battery. Â He is currently in Southern Regional Jail under a 50,000 dollar bond.
