RANDOLPH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested for purchasing alcohol for a juvenile teen.
According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), on Saturday, October 21, 2023, Corporal E.B. Carr received information about an underage party that involved the consumption of alcohol.
Upon further investigation, it was learned that there were a number of juveniles at a residence when one of them made contact with the Defendant, identified as Daniel Eric Hamrick, to purchase alcohol.
It was alleged that the juveniles traveled to Jimbos and picked the Defendant up before going to Go-Mart on Railroad Avenue in the Elkins area of Randolph County.
The Defendant entered Go-Mart and purchased alcohol before returning to the vehicle and subsequently returning to Jimbos. The juveniles then returned to a residence in Elkins with the purchased alcohol.
According to the RCSO, on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at approximately 5 PM, Corporal E.B. Carr met with the Defendant at the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office for an interview.
After advising the Defendant of his Miranda Rights, he agreed to speak with law enforcement. The Defendant advised that he received a phone call from a 16-year-old juvenile on October 20, 2023, at approximately 10 PM.
The Defendant did agree to provide proof of an incoming call from the juvenile at 10 PM that lasted for 37 seconds. He knew this juvenile because he used to coach him in Babe Ruth baseball in Elkins, according to police.
The juvenile requested the Defendant to purchase him some alcohol. At this time, the Defendant was located at Jimbo’s with his friends so a vehicle containing two juvenile males and one juvenile female went to pick the Defendant up.
Once picked up, the vehicle traveled to Go-Mart #90 off Railroad Avenue in the Elkins area of Randolph County.
The Defendant advised that he wasn’t sure who the other two juveniles in the vehicle were and only knew the juvenile who called him. A request was made by the caller for the Defendant to purchase a case of Busch Light as well as Twisted Tea.
In addition to a tobacco product for Defendant’s personal usage, the total spent at Go-Mart #90 was $37.83.
The Defendant advised that he requested no repayment or money in return for purchasing the alcohol; however, advised that he had a “dad talk” with the juvenile to ensure that he would be safe, according to police.
The Defendant did agree to provide the purchase history of his credit card on his phone.
The alcohol was provided to the male Juvenile caller before the vehicle returned to Jimbo’s to drop him back off.
The Defendant advised that his only intention was to provide alcohol for the juvenile who called him with the request. The Defendant appeared remorseful and was eager to work through and resolve the situation.
Daniel Eric Hamrick was arrested on an arrest warrant for providing alcohol to minors. Hamrick entered into a guilty plea during arraignment.
