CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after pushing his 81-year-old aunt out of her wheelchair.
According to a criminal complaint, on Friday, June 7, 2024, at approximately 1 PM, Charleston Fire Department (CFD) units responded to an apartment on Washington Street East for a possible assault on an 81-year-old female.
Once CFD units arrived on the scene they learned that the female had allegedly been pushed by a family member, causing her to fall out of the chair.
Upon police arrival, they made contact with the victim and her sister.
CFD units told police that the female had been pushed out of her wheelchair by her great nephew, 37-year-old Joshua Wilson.
Wilson then hid inside his bedroom with the door locked refusing to open it when CFD units arrived.
Police were able to unlock the door and discovered the room to be empty and the window to be open.
The victim and her sister told police that it was common for her live-in nephew to push her down the hall in her wheelchair causing her to run into things.
In this specific incident, the victim told police that she was attempting to get a drink out of the kitchen and stated that Wilson thought she was in his way and then pushed her out of anger.
She crashed into her bed frame but did not fall out of the chair. She told police that Wilson came back and pushed her again causing her to crash into a chair and fall out of her wheelchair.
Wilson allowed her to lie on the floor for thirty minutes without assisting her.
The victim’s sister then arrived to check on her where she found her lying on the floor. She was left with pain and numbness due to the incident.
Joshua Wilson has been arrested and charged with Abuse and Neglect of an Incapacitated Adult.
He is currently at South Central Regional Jail on a $5,000 cash-only bond.
