BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Raleigh County man faces charges in relation to an incident in which a woman’s cell phone was seized through her car window, prompting her to engage in a foot chase with the perpetrator.
According to Deputy Eller of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, authorities were dispatched to the area of Cobbs Street in Raleigh County with regard to an assault.
The victim in the incident advised that she had been in the area checking on a property she owned before attempting to turn around at a nearby property and leave. At this point in the situation, a man with whom the victim was unfamiliar began to approach the vehicle while yelling, prompting the victim to begin recording video of the incident as it was unfolding.
The man then purportedly reached into the car and took the cell phone, which reports indicated to be valued at approximately $500. The victim is then said to have exited the vehicle, giving chase on foot in an attempt to retrieve her stolen device.
Upon catching up to the individual, the man is said to have struck the complainant in the hand with a wooden object before throwing the phone. The complainant then retrieved her phone, returned to her car, and left the scene.
Deputy Eller reports later having spoken to the complainant who was able to provide the video evidence obtained on the phone itself. This, along with a swollen and bruised area on the victim’s hand, corroborated her explanation of the events which occurred.
Through a still image of the perpetrator obtained from the phone video, authorities were able to identify the male as Adam Graham.
Warrants were obtained for Graham on charges of Battery and Petit Larceny. Graham was arrested on Monday, October 30, 2023.
