WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man is behind bars after stabbing a neighbor within their apartment complex over a $50 debt.
According to a criminal complaint, on March 3, 2023, at approximately 7:38 PM, police were dispatched by Wyoming County 911 to an apartment complex in reference to a male who had been stabbed. Once officers arrived at the apartment complex a few minutes later, they observed the male victim bleeding profusely from his left arm right above his elbow.
The complaint states that officers advised the victim and his wife to keep pressure on the wound. They stated they had already tried and it would not stop bleeding.
While speaking to the victim and his wife, they stated the suspect, Jesse B. Hobbs, came to their apartment and knocked on the door, and began confronting the victim about owing him $50.00. They stated while Hobbs was confronting him, Hobbs stepped into their apartment and stabbed the male victim with a knife before going back to his apartment, which is in the same complex.
After escorting EMS and the victim safely to the ambulance, officers went to Hobbs’ apartment where Wyoming County Deputies were already speaking to Hobbs.
Hobbs stated he had been drinking and could not remember how much. He stated he remembered confronting the male victim about the debt but did not remember stabbing him. He stated that the victim got in his face and he did not remember anything after that.
Officers then asked Hobbs where his knife was, he stated he did not know and officers were welcome to look around.
A silver switchblade knife was discovered on the table beside Hobbs’ recliner. After opening the knife, officers observed what appeared to be fresh blood on the blade and the handle.
Hobbs was then placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Jesse Detachment for processing. Hobbs is currently at Southern Regional Jail on a $10,000 bond.
