RANDOLPH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after strangling a woman and threatening her with a shotgun.
In a domestic violence incident on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, officers from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency call at a residence on Gun Dog Road.
The caller, identified as the victim, reported being strangled by Nathan Yokum, who also threatened her with a shotgun.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office then arrived at the scene.
According to the victim, Mr. Yokum had grabbed a shotgun and pointed it at her, threatening to shoot.
She managed to escape to a neighbor’s house on Shaffer’s Run Road, where officers found her with visible strangulation marks on her neck.
The victim recounted her ordeal, stating that after the strangulation, Mr. Yokum dragged her through the house before she managed to flee.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers created a perimeter around the residence and repeatedly ordered Mr. Yokum to surrender.
Initially unresponsive, Mr. Yokum was eventually persuaded by friends and relatives to surrender peacefully. He emerged from a bedroom window unarmed.
A search revealed two syringes and pills in his pockets, and drug paraphernalia near the window.
Mr. Yokum was taken into custody and transported to the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
Further investigation revealed a Remington 870 Magnum shotgun in a broken-down cargo van on the property, loaded with five rounds.
Surveillance footage confirmed Mr. Yokum was armed during the incident.
A subsequent search of the residence uncovered approximately six grams of suspected methamphetamine, two ounces of marijuana seeds, syringes, and various drug paraphernalia.
Mr. Yokum faces charges of felony strangulation and wanton endangerment with a firearm, with additional controlled substance charges pending.
He is currently at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $75,000 cash-only bond.
