The driver, identified as 36-year-old Keyon Nesmith of Denver, Colorado, was observed not wearing a seat belt and using a cell phone while driving.
Troopers said Nesmith admitted he did not have a valid driver’s license and initially refused to provide identification.Â
He was then detained while officers used a K-9 unit to conduct a search of the vehicle.
The K-9 alerted to the passenger side of the car, and officers said they located a black shoulder bag containing digital scales, baggies, and a clear bag with a white rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine.
Further investigation led officers to a room at the Economy Inn, where Nesmith was staying.Â

According to the complaint, Nesmith admitted the narcotics belonged to him.
Nesmith was taken into custody and faces multiple drug-related charges. He is currently out on bond.
