BLUEFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was arrested on February 27, 2025, following a physical altercation at the Bluefield State College dormitories.
Officer D.W. Lester responded to a call at 450 Cherry Street regarding a fight involving multiple individuals. Upon arrival, campus security informed the officer that surveillance cameras had captured the incident.
The victims, identified as Miasia Seymour and her roommate, Sariyah McCalla, reported that Malachi Ruffin, a resident of the dorms and Seymour’s former partner, had attacked them. The confrontation allegedly stemmed from harassment by Ruffin’s current girlfriend via phone.
According to witness accounts and video evidence, Ruffin knocked on Seymour’s door and, when it was opened, immediately struck McCalla in the face with a closed fist. He then entered the room and began attacking Seymour. The footage reportedly shows both women trying to defend themselves while Ruffin continued to punch McCalla and pull Seymour by the hair.
After briefly leaving the room, Ruffin attempted to re-enter, claiming he needed his shoes. When Seymour stepped into the hallway, video evidence showed Ruffin slapping her multiple times, grabbing her by the hair, and hitting her head against the wall. He also allegedly grabbed her by the throat, leaving visible scratches.
Following the review of video footage, witness statements, and physical evidence, Ruffin was arrested and charged with domestic battery against Seymour and battery against McCalla. Seymour was later treated by emergency medical personnel.
